Takk hr. Brown
Sendi í morgun eftirfarandi grein til tveggja breskra blađa. Sjáum til hvort hún birtist:
"A smelly Brown object and little, little Darling
Sir:
On October 7th the Landsbanki of Iceland was declared insolvent and taken over by the government. For a few years the bank had operated the Icesave savings accounts in Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and other countries. The same day Chancellor Alastair Darling spoke with his Icelandic counterpart, Mr. Arni Mathiesen, who assured him Iceland would honour its legal obligations towards Icesaves deposit holders.
Still, the day after, in a BBC interview, Darling stated that the Icelandic government, believe it or not, have told me yesterday they have no intention of honouring their obligations here.
Since then, Icelandic officials have repeatedly made it clear that they have never issued such a statement and that Iceland has always intended to pay its lawful due, even though it amounts to the total annual GDP of the country.
2
In spite of this Alastair Darling and Prime Minister Gordon Brown have repeated their lies in the media day after day with a calculated disregard for the actual facts.
2
Perhaps our politicians are childish and silly to expect their British counterparts to have a minimal respect for the truth. Maybe they did believe in the myth of British gentlemanly behaviour, fair play being the cornerstone, only to find the sewers and their brownish contents to have taken over.
2
The same day Darling lied to the BBC about Icelands intentions, he seized the Kaupthing Edge savings bank and the Singer and Friedlander bank, both owned by Kaupthing, Icelands largest financial corporation, the remaining bank in good financial health after the collapse of two smaller banks. As a result, creditors had no option but to close Kaupthings lines of credit, bringing the bank to bankruptcy. This was done based on the Terrorist Act. The strategy of terrorists is to create turmoil and destruction among the general public to further their own goals. This is probably the first time terrorism is based on the very laws against it!
2
By destroying Kaupthing Brown and Darling cost the Icelandic pension funds between 15 and 25 percent of their assets. The shareholders, half of the countrys adult population, lost a large portion of their savings. Economists now expect a third of Icelandic businesses may go into bankruptcy as a result of Kaupthings downfall. But the good news is that Gordon Brown enjoyed a small jump in long-awaited popularity, along with his little Darling!
2
While the two friends worked their sewer pumps, Icelandic officials negotiated with their British counterparts, not to decide if Iceland would pay its dues, since this was never the question, but how and when. Meanwhile, our politicians were busy finding ways to prevent a total collapse of the economy. Should they perhaps rather have spent their time working with PR specialists to fend off the dirt being spouted by the two fine gentlemen?
2
It is important to point out that of all the countries where Icesave operated it is only in Britain that politicians have deliberately tried to cause damage to Iceland while settlements were being negotiated.
2
At Thingvellir, the Icelandic seat of Parliament for 1000 years, a deep pool is to be found, called Drekkingarhylur (Drowning pool). In the times of witchhunt, suspected witches were thrown in, to check if they told the truth about their innocence. If they sank, they were innocent. If they floated, the were presumed guilty. Having demonstrated what unsavoury material he seems to be made of, I do not expect PM Brown ever to have the guts to visit Thingvellir and take the test. His moment of truth will be the upcoming elections in Britain. Then we shall see if slander and lies against a fellow NATO country can keep him in power or not. Will he sink, or is he a floater?"
